Smart tips to save energy and cut costs

Heating, ventilation and air conditioning

  • Install thermostats to heat only the rooms that need it.

  • Upgrade window and door seals to keep draughts out.

  • Set timers to turn off heating and cooling during quiet hours.

  • Remind staff to switch off systems when they're not needed.

IT equipment and appliances

  • Power down devices overnight and during downtime.

  • Choose laptops over desktops where possible.

  • Turn off non-essential equipment like display lights and coffee machines after hours.

  • Clean fridge/freezer filters regularly and give appliances breathing room.

Lighting

  • Switch off lights in empty rooms.

  • Replace outdated bulbs with LED alternatives.

  • Use motion sensors and let in as much natural light as possible during the day.

  • Label switches so staff use only what's necessary.
